In their first home game in two weeks, the LaSalle Vipers dropped a 5-2 contest to the Waterloo Siskins on Wednesday in their final meeting of the season. This loss marked LaSalle’s first regulation loss against Waterloo this year, splitting the season series.
Affiliate player Bennett Horrocks got the start between the pipes for LaSalle. The Vipers came out flying in an explosive opening period. Kade McGeen opened the scoring just 1:08 into the game, giving LaSalle an early boost. Shawn Costello took a penalty but made up for it later in the frame by capitalizing on the power play at 14:20. This late marker sent LaSalle into the intermission up by two.
Waterloo struck just 1:18 into the second period, then added another at 6:04 to tie the game. The Siskins continued to press and found the eventual game-winner at 14:51. They added an insurance goal late in the period at 17:59 to extend their lead.
At the end of the second, roughing penalties were handed out to Lucas Pougnet and a Waterloo player. More roughing penalties were given to Josh Lepain, Shawn Costello and the Siskins at 12:24. Waterloo recorded their fifth goal at the same time.
The Vipers will look to bounce back next Wednesday when they return home to face the Komoka Kings.
