Vipers Eye October Schedule After Strong Start

The LaSalle Vipers turned the page on the month of September with a victory over the Leamington Flyers on Thursday night in Leamington.

After picking up a point but ultimately losing in a shootout to the Strathroy Rockets in the team’s home opener on Wednesday night, the Vipers responded with a big road effort to knock off a Flyers team who does not lose often in their own building.

First period goals by Nic Pavia, Brody Gillis, and Drew Booker all came within a span of 1:32 and ended up being all the offense needed as Matt Tovell helped shut the door on Leamington’s comeback bid in the third. The Vipers netminder stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced on the night, including 15 in the final frame as the Flyers outshot the Vipers 15-5, securing his and the team’s second victory of the season. Captain Nic Pavia had a goal and two assists, while rookie forward Drew Booker notched his first career goal and added an assist.

Through three games of the young season, the Vipers have picked up five of a possible six points and currently sit atop the Western Conference standings with a 2-0-0-1 record. The calendar now flips to a busy October where the team will play nine games, beginning with the first meeting of the season with the Chatham Maroons on Wednesday night in LaSalle.
