The Vipers finished up the last week of October in a home and home with the Chatham Maroons. On Sunday, we traveled to Chatham but were unable to come back with a win, losing 5-2. Last night, Chatham travelled to the Vollmer Culture R.C where the Vipers hoped to win this rematch on home ice.
Like last game, Chatham opened the scoring early in the first period at 1:27. A tripping penalty was called on Kyle Greene at 10:20 then at 11:37 another tripping penalty was called but this time on Owen Findlay. Both penalties were killed off successfully. We ended the first only down 1-0.
The second was just like the first. We only saw one goal, this time a Vipers goal. Scored by Max Brocklehurst, his second of the season came at 10:23 and was the game equalizer. The Maroons were called for slashing and then Brady Hamlin for tripping, ending the period on the penalty kill.
The 1-1 tie did not last long as Chatham scored at 2:03. The Vipers fought hard but couldn’t find the back of the net till 15:41 when Bryce Belleau scored his first GOJHL goal and it couldn’t have come at a better time. His pivotal goal sent us into overtime.
One week ago, Captain Owen Findlay scored the overtime winner vs the KW Siskins and that is exactly what he did this week as well. Findlay shot the puck over the shoulder of the Maroons goalie at 1:31, giving us a solid 2 points.
We start off November in Hamilton this Saturday where face the Kilty B’s. Then we’re back home on November 6th when the Komoka Kings come to the Vollmer.
