The LaSalle Vipers extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-3 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians last night.
Adriano Tonin set the tone early, opening the scoring just 2:33 into the first period. Seth Coomber, facing his former team, doubled the lead at 12:45 before Grady Spicer took a roughing minor. That penalty didn’t slow the Vipers down, as Brody Jones capitalized on the penalty kill and found the back of the net. Julian Gignac added his fourth of the season late in the frame to make it 4-0.
LaSalle came out of intermission hungry for more, with Nick Rosati striking just 25 seconds in. After Jaksen Ward took a roughing penalty midway through the frame, Joe Gingras added another shorthanded goal for the Vipers. Welland finally broke through with back-to-back powerplay goals at 17:43 and 19:55 to cut the deficit to 6-2.
In the third, Coomber added his second of the evening on the Vipers powerplay at 6:34, while the Jr. Canadians responded with one more at 12:15. The comeback attempt fell short for Welland as LaSalle’s early offensive efforts proved too much.
The Vipers improve to 5-1-1 on the season and will return home Sunday for an afternoon matchup against the Port Colborne Sailors.
