The Lasalle Vipers wrapped up their home-and-home series against the St. Marys Lincolns on Friday night, suffering a tough 7-0 loss on the road. The Lincolns, who sit at the top of the conference, showcased their dominance for the second straight game after defeating the Vipers 7-3 on Wednesday in Lasalle.
The game began with a defensive effort from both teams, but penalties quickly became a factor. The Vipers took multiple penalties throughout the frame. Jaksen Ward (hooking), Adriano Tonin (interference), Alec Stewart (cross-checking), Michael Lavigne (slashing), and Kieran McNally (interference) all spent time in the box. Lasalle managed to kill off all these disadvantages until 19:42 when St. Marys scored to take the 1-0 lead into the intermission
The Vipers had a chance to respond early, drawing a Lincolns penalty just 55 seconds into the period. However, St. Marys extended their lead with a shorthanded goal at 8:36, followed by another goal at 10:24. Lasalle continued to struggle, as Nick Graniero was called for holding at 13:32 which resulted in a powerplay goal at 14:25, making it 4-0 Lincolns. The period ended with increased tension between both teams, multiple unsportsmanlike penalties were called including one to Julian Gignac.
St. Marys continued to press in the final frame, adding another goal halfway through the third at 10:09. The Lincolns took advantage of the Vipers penalty kill again with a goal at 12:18. St. Marys scored their seventh goal at 14:02. Despite the several powerplay opportunities awarded to the Vipers, they were unable to solve the Lincolns goaltending. Final score 7-0.
The Vipers will be in Chatham on Sunday night to face the Maroons and then back home on Wednesday February 5th to face the St. Thomas Stars.
