It was a tough Sunday afternoon for the LaSalle Vipers, who were unable to get one past the Elmira Sugar Kings. Despite the loss, the Vipers did receive a boost to their lineup with the return of defencemen Aidan Ostrovski and Gage Evans, both of whom had been sidelined with injuries.
Both teams traded chances in the opening frame, but Elmira broke the deadlock late in the period, scoring at 16:12 to take the 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Nick Rosati and an Elmira player both went to the box for roughing.
Elmira extended their lead early in the second. While Kieran McNally was in the box for cross-checking, the Sugar Kings capitalized on the man advantage to make it 3-0. They added another late goal at 16:49, carrying a 4-0 lead into the third.
The final frame saw four penalties, two to each side. LaSalle appeared to get on the board with a goal, but it was ultimately waved off, eliminating their chance at a late comeback.
The Vipers will now host the Strathroy Rockets on Wednesday.
