The Vipers extended their season to 2-0 in an afternoon game vs the Elmira Sugar Kings. With the realignment of the conferences, the Sugar Kings are now in the Western Conference with the Vipers. Last season, the Vipers only played Elmira once, losing 5-2. Five players scored their first goals of the season in a 5-2 victory.
The game started with Elmira receiving two penalties that were both successfully killed off. Elmira then opened the scoring at 18:08 in the first period. The Vipers ended the first period down 1-0 but shots on net were 13-11 in favour of Lasalle.
At the 7:46 point in the second period, Nick Graniero scored his first of the season. Not long after Elmira received a penalty and Connor Chartrand scored his first of the season on the power play. Two penalties were given to the Vipers and three to the Sugar Kings before Kyle Greene scored on the powerplay and brought the score up to 3-1. They ended the middle frame set at 3-1, shots on net 11-7 Lasalle.
Only 2:13 into the 3rd, Zach Villancourt scored his first of the season and once again, this goal was awarded on the power play. The Sugar Kings tried to make a comeback by scoring one more halfway through the 3rd. Despite the Vipers already winning 4-2, Elmira pulled their goalie and Jak Thiessen added one more into the empty net.
The Vipers have two games scheduled this week.
Wednesday September 18, 2024, the Sarnia Legionnaires come to visit the Vollmer. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
Friday September 20, 2024, the Vipers head to the Pyramid R.C. to face the St. Mary Lincoln’s. Puck drop is at 7:30pm
