Vipers Hold Off Nationals in Hard-Fought 3-2 Win

The London Nationals made their first visit to the Vollmer since the Vipers home opener back in September. Goaltender Jake Windbiel played a crucial role in Lasalle’s 3-2 victory, making 37 saves. With this win, the Vipers continue their push toward securing a playoff spot.

The Nationals struck first, opening the scoring at 6:49 of the first period. The Vipers responded at 12:08 when Joe Gingras found the back of the net to even the score. Lasalle had an opportunity to take the lead with a 5-on-3 power play at 13:07 but couldn’t convert. However, at 17:50, Max Brocklehurst- playing in just his second game back after missing nearly two months due to injury- put the Vipers ahead 2-1 heading into first intermission.

The second period began with 4-on-4 play at 3:10. London scored later in the frame at 11:01 to tie the game at 2 a piece. The shots on goal during this period were 17-13 in favour of Lasalle.

Early in the third period at 1:25, Owen Findlay scored the game-winner, making history in the process. With that goal, Findlay now holds the record for most points by a Vipers defenceman since 2008. The remainder of the game saw a string of roughing calls. London pulled their goaltender twice in the final minute, desperate to tie the game, but the Vipers held firm to secure the win.

The Vipers play back-to-back games this week. They returned to the Vollmer on Wednesday, February 12th to face the Chatham Maroons before hitting the road for a Thursday night matchup against the Sarnia Legionnaires.
