The Lasalle Vipers welcomed the Stratford Warriors back to the Vollmer this past Wednesday. This is the third time in two weeks that the Vipers have faced the Warriors, twice at home and once on the road. Coming off two wins at the GOJHL showcase, the Vipers looked to add another two points.
The opening frame was relatively quiet. Jake Windbiel started off strong in goal for the Vipers. Kieran McNally picked up a penalty at 14:01. The first 20 minutes ended scoreless.
The Vipers exploded offensively in the second period. Jak Thiessen opened the scoring at 1:53 into the period. Joe Gingras received a penalty at 2:07 but that didn’t stop the Vipers as they killed off that disadvantage no problem. Kieran McNally notched the eventual game winner at 4:19. Shortly after, at 5:18, Matteo Vilardi scored the insurance goal. Julian Gignac capitalized on the power play after Stratford was sent to the box for tripping. Unfortunately, Windbiel couldn’t keep the shutout as Stratford scored their first and only goal this game at 13:31.
The final period resembled the first with minimal action and few opportunities. Adriano Tonin scored the fifth goal for the Vipers. Stratford then picked up two more penalties before the final whistle was blown. The Vipers securing this game 5-1.
The Vipers next head to London on Saturday December 14th to face the Nationals
