Vipers Fall To Maroons In Overtime

The last regular- season meeting between the LaSalle Vipers and Chatham Maroons was held in Chatham this Sunday night. A tightly contested game ultimately ended in a 5-4 overtime win for the Maroons.

Josh Lepain continued his hot streak, opening the score at 5:14 of the first period to give LaSalle an early lead. The opening frame saw both teams take two penalties apiece. Chatham found the equalizer late in the period,sending the game to the first intermission tied 1-1.

The Maroons gained momentum in the second period, scoring twice at 2:20 and 8:11 to take a 3-1 lead. LaSalle ran into some penalty troubles throughout the frame, taking three minor penalties.

The third period belonged to the Vipers. Nick Rosati sparked the comeback just 2:25 in. Chatham briefly restored their two-goal lead at 8:28 while Lepain was serving a slashing penalty. Lucas Pougnet scored his first GOHL goal on the power play at 12:19, pulling the Vipers within one. The comeback was completed when Grady Spicer tied the game at 16:10, forcing overtime.

LaSalle took a penalty just 38 seconds into the extra frame, but the penalty kill came up strong to keep the game alive. Despite the effort, Chatham eventually found the winner at 5:32.

The Vipers now have two final games before the winter break. LaSalle returns home Wednesday night to host the London Nationals before heading to Listowel to face the Cyclones on the road Friday.
