After back-to-back wins against the St. Thomas Stars and London Nationals, the Lasalle Vipers looked to keep their momentum going as they hosted the Chatham Maroons on Wednesday night at the Vollmer. Unfortunately, the Maroons had other plans, handing the Vipers a tough 8-1 loss.
Jake Windbiel got the start in net for the Vipers. Lasalle had an early powerplay opportunity after Chatham took a tripping penalty just under two minutes into the game. The Maroons controlled the pace of the first, scoring three goals in the final ten minutes of the period- 10:33, 15:50 and 16:20- to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
The Vipers saw a glimpse of hope when Brady Hamlin scored his first of the season at 4:08. Chatham quickly regained control adding two more goals at 11:48 and 13:20. Following the fifth goal, Logan Phillips replaced Windbiel in net. The Maroons weren’t done, scoring two more at 15:44 and 16:38 to take a 7-1 lead into the final frame.
The last period saw minimal action, with a high sticking penalty to Nick Graniero and one more goal from Chatham at 17:43 to claim the 8-1 win.
The Vipers hit the road for their next three games, facing Sarnia on Thursday February 13th and Thursday February 20th, before traveling to Elmira on Sunday February 23rd.
