Vipers Fall Short in Waterloo Despite Strong Start

The Lasalle Vipers faced off against the Kitchener- Waterloo Siskins in their second away game to kick off the New Year. After a tough loss to the St. Thomas Stars on Friday night, the Vipers were looking for a win in Waterloo. Earlier this season, both teams have come out victorious in their respective meetings at the Vollmer Culture R.C. in Lasalle. However, this time, the Vipers came up short, losing by one goal.

Logan Phillips made his first official start in net for the Vipers since being acquired a week ago. The Vipers scored 2 quick goals in the first period. Brendan Gouin opened the scoring at 6:43, followed by an unassisted goal from Matteo Vilardi at 8:08. Both teams received penalties at 10:47. The Siskins narrowed the gap with a late goal at 15:50, ending the period 2-1 in favor of the Vipers.

The second period began with a Siskins penalty at 3:45. This powerplay lead Alec Stewart to score the third goal for the Vipers, extending their lead to 3-1. Unfortunately, the Siskins responded quickly, scoring twice at 6:54 and 12:12 to tie the game. That third goal was recorded on the powerplay as Michael Lavigne was serving a 2-minute minor.

At 10:18 into the third period, Zach Vaillancourt took a penalty which led to the Siskins fifth and final goal. The Vipers pulled Phillips for the extra attacker, but the Siskins sealed the game with an empty- net goal at 18:04. Kieran McNally scored the Vipers fourth goal at 18:24, but time ran out before they could complete the comeback

After four consecutive games on the road, the Vipers finally return home on Wednesday January 8th, 2025, to face the Sarnia Legionnaires.
