The LaSalle Vipers came up short in a tight game against the St. Marys Lincolns on Wednesday night at the Vollmer, falling 3-2 after a late powerplay goal sealed the win for the visiting team. This was the second meeting between the two teams, with the first time resulting in a 2-1 Vipers win.
Things got rough early, with some 4-on-4 play just under four minutes in. St. Marys opened the scoring at 5:25 to take the lead. Despite more penalties to both sides, the Vipers battled for a goal of their own as Ian Inskip netted his third of the season to even the score at 18:34.
Early in the second, Kade McGeen gave LaSalle the lead with his first goal of the year. However, a too many men penalty midway through the period gave St. Marys a chance to respond, they wasted no time, tying the game at 16:09.
The third period was an even battle until the final minutes. A high-sticking penalty to Brody Jones at 18:31 gave the Lincolns a late opportunity to walk away with the win. They wasted no time scoring 15 seconds later and despite a strong push to tie it, the Vipers ran out of time.
LaSalle will look to get back in the win column on the weekend with a pair of road games. Friday in St. Thomas and Saturday in Elmira.
