Vipers Fall in Overtime to Siskins

The LaSalle Vipers were looking to earn another win against the Waterloo Siskins on Wednesday night but came up just short, falling 4-3 in overtime.

The game started with both teams trading early penalties before Kaiden Harmon opened the scoring at 6:02. Waterloo quickly responded with a goal just two minutes later to tie things up. The opening 20 minutes ended with two more penalties split between the teams.

Waterloo took their first lead of the night just 1:59 into the second period. Harmon cashed in his second of the night to even the score, but the tie didn’t last long as the Siskins reclaimed the lead at 15:21, heading into the third period up 3-2.

In what we thought would be the final 20 minutes, the only action on the scoresheet was a Waterloo penalty as both goaltenders stood their ground. Jake Windbiel was pulled for the extra attacker at 18:39, and that move paid off. Julian Gignac found the back of the net with 1:17 remaining to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Unfortunately for LaSalle, this meeting did not go as well as last, as Waterloo capitalized at 4:59 of overtime for the game-winning goal.

The Vipers face Stratford for the first time this season on Friday night before returning home for their usual Wednesday night matchup at the Vollmer.
