The Lasalle Vipers officially began their 2025 GOJHL playoff run on Friday night, facing off against the Stratford Warriors in Game 1 of their first-round series. After splitting the regular- season series 2-2, the matchup was expected to be a closely fought battle.
The Vipers got off to a strong start, capitalizing on an early power play just 6 seconds into the Stratford penalty. Max Brocklehurst gave Lasalle the 1-0 lead at 2:59 of the first period. Stratford took another penalty at 8:40 and the Vipers faced penalty troubles of their own at 4:20 and 12:11. Despite the penalties, neither team was able to add to the scoreboard.
The second period remained scoreless. The Vipers killed off a penalty to Brody Jones at 6:52 and Joe Gingras at 11:24. The Warriors took another minor at 19:00. Lasalle held onto their 1-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Stratford struck early in the third, evening the score just 1:09 into the period. Stratford then took the lead at 9:24. Although the Vipers fought hard to find the equalizer including a late push with an extra attacker in the final minute, unfortunately they were unable to beat the Warriors in Game 1.
Game 2 is set for Wednesday, March 19th, back home at the Vollmer, where the Vipers will look to even the series in front of their home crowd.
