Vipers Drop Both Games in Weekend Road Trip

It was a tough weekend on the road for the LaSalle Vipers, who dropped both games to the St. Thomas Stars and Elmira Sugar Kings.

The Vipers opened their weekend with a visit to St. Thomas on Friday night, where they fell 5-1 to the Stars.

The first period saw penalties to both teams, with Ian Inskip taking an interference minor and St. Thomas receiving a slashing call. The Vipers also lost Grady Spicer late in the frame after he was assessed a game misconduct for checking from behind.

Michael Cunha gave LaSalle some life early in the second, finding the back of the net at 4:56 but back-to-back penalties for the Vipers shifted the momentum and St. Thomas capitalized on the man advantage to tie the game.

The Stars took full control in the third, scoring four unanswered goals to secure the win.

The following night, the Vipers travelled to Elmira to face the Sugar Kings for the first time this season. The team was unable to find their way in this 4-0 loss.

Despite a pair of early power plays, LaSalle couldn’t convert, and Elmira struck first on a powerplay of their own. The Sugar Kings added another goal before the end of the first, to take the 2-0 lead.

Both teams traded penalties in the second. Elmira extended their lead to three with a goal at 16:33.

The Vipers penalty troubles continued in the third, and Elmira sealed the game with a fourth goal late in the contest.

The Vipers return home to the Vollmer on Wednesday to host the Waterloo Siskins, looking to get back in the win column.
