Vipers Defeated by Maroons in First Regular-Season Matchup

The Lasalle Vipers spent their Sunday night in Chatham facing the Maroons for the first time this season. The Vipers saw the Maroons twice in the preseason. Both teams winning one of those two games. This contest was the first out of five times these teams will meet this regular season.

The first period was all Chatham as they opened the scoring only 57 seconds into the game. The Maroons scored again at 7:58 then one more time in the first period at 8:28. Jake Windbiel started the game for the Vipers. Backup Hunter Welk did see over six minutes of ice team in the first as Windbiel was dealing with some equipment issues. We finished the period 3-0 Chatham.

The second period was strictly full of penalties. At 3:08, Nick Graniero and a Maroons both got put in the box for roughing. Some more 4 on 4 hockey was played at 12:08. Within the last four minutes, four more penalties were handed out. Two to the Vipers and two to the Maroons. The second ended with the same score as it began.

Chatham scored their fourth goal at 9:08. Not even a minute later, former Maroon Brendan Gouin gave the Vipers their first goal of the night. Chatham added their final goal at 15:26. Shortly after, Jaksen Ward scored the second and final goal at 16:56. During the last three minutes of play, a handful of penalties were handed out to a combination of players from both teams. 5-2 Chatham after 60 minutes.

On Wednesday, we face the Maroons again. This time they come to the Vollmer Culture R.C for a rematch.

Wednesday is jersey night to all Windsor/Essex minor hockey players. Players will get into the Vipers game for free if they are wearing their team jersey. Players also must be accompanied by an adult.
