The LaSalle Vipers returned to Wednesday night action for the first time in two weeks to face off against their highway rivals, the Chatham Maroons. Adam Bartel got the start between the pipes.
Chatham wasted no time opening the scoring at 3:21 and doubled their lead just six minutes later. Tensions began to rise midway through the first when Grady Spicer and a Maroon player took penalties at 12:50. LaSalle continued to face penalty troubles later in the period and entered the intermission down 2-0.
Just 35 seconds into the second period, the Maroons added to their lead. The Vipers earned a power play at 1:50 but were unable to get one past the Chatham goaltender. Chatham then extended the lead to 4-0 at 5:21. After Joe Gingras served a two-minute minor, the rest of the period settled into a more even pace, but LaSalle still entered the final frame trailing 4-0.
The Maroons scored their fifth and final goal at 8:04 of the third period while Kieran McNally was serving a high sticking penalty. Chatham took two penalties in the second half of the period. LaSalle did eventually break the shutout at 18:19 when Kaiden Harmon buried one to get the Vipers on the board.
LaSalle returns home this Sunday for an afternoon matchup against the Elmira Sugar Kings.
