Vipers Come Up Short Despite Three Short-Handed Goals

The LaSalle Vipers came up just short on Saturday night as they visited the Komoka King on their second-last road trip of the regular season while continuing to push for a playoff spot.

Komoka wasted no time, striking just 30 seconds into the game to grab an early lead. Shortly after, Jonah McIndoo served a too-many-men penalty, but Joe Gingras delivered an outstanding penalty-killing performance, scoring two shorthanded goals just 19 seconds apart, with his first coming at 8:15 and his second at 8:34. The quick turnaround gave the Vipers confidence and a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Kings tied the game at 3:45 before taking the lead on a power-play goal while Nic Rosati was in the box. LaSalle answered once again while down a man, as Max Brocklehurst scored another shorthanded goal at 7:47. However, Komoka regained the lead in the final minutes of the second period.

Adriano Tonin evened the score at 9:43 of the third period with an unassisted goal, but unfortunately the Vipers couldn’t maintain momentum. The Kings netted the game-winner at 11:31 and later sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 17:39.

LaSalle will look ahead as they return to the ice on Wednesday against the St. Marys Lincolns in a rescheduled game from earlier this season.
