Vipers Hand Caledonia Their First Loss of the Season

The Lasalle Vipers showed up last night at the Vollmer R.C. and played the Caledonia Corvairs who went undefeated for the first month of play. Handing Caledonia their first loss of the season, this is the first and only time the Vipers will see the Corvairs this season. Jake Windbiel earned his first GOJHL win, helping move the team to third place in the conference

Jake Windbiel played two games with the Windsor Spitfires in the preseason before coming to Lasalle and playing his first game with the Vipers yesterday. To start the first period, the Corvairs received two penalties. After one was killed off, it only took Zach Vaillancourt 12 seconds to opening the scoring.

The Vipers came out of the first intermission in full control of the game. A total of four Vipers goals were scored. Adriano Tonin scored the first out of the four on a 2 on 1 with Nick Graniero, shortly after Alec Stewart scored his first goal of the season after joining the Vipers last game. Matteo Vilardi made it 3-0 at 9:56 and then to close out the four goals of the period, the puck found Jak Thiessen on the powerplay and he fired it into the open cage. Unfortunately, a bad bounce ended Windbiel’s potential shutout with 43 left to play. Lasalle took control over the shots on net this period; 24-16.

By the time the third period rolled around it was 5-1 Lasalle and that’s how it stayed. Two misconducts were handed out but neither team could find another goal in them. The final shots on net were 43-37 in favour of Lasalle
