The LaSalle Vipers continued their strong stretch run on Wednesday night, earning a 4-2 win over the St. Thomas Stars. The Vipers entered the matchup having won four of their last five games.
Max Brocklehurst opened the scoring at 6:01 of the first period, giving LaSalle an early boost. Late in the frame, Shawn Costello stayed red hot, netting his seventh goal in seven games at 17:48 on the power play after St. Thomas was called for slashing.
The second period featured rising tempers between the two clubs. Costello and Brocklehurst were both sent off at 6:09 during a heated exchange, and Costello found himself back in the box again at 10:58. LaSalle appeared in control heading into the final minutes of the period, but the Stars struck twice, scoring at 19:15 and again just 11 seconds later at 19:26 to suddenly tie the game.
Ian Inskip restored the lead at 7:29 of the third period, scoring what would stand as the game-winner. Kade McGeen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:32.
With this win, LaSalle continues its push through the final stretch of the regular season. The Vipers now hit the road to face the Listowel Cyclones on Friday night.
