A Pair of First Period Goals Combine for a 2-1 Win in Strathroy

The Lasalle Vipers began their weekend on the road with a stop in Strathroy to face the Rockets. The last time these 2 teams met, the Vipers came out on top 4-1. 2 goals in the first period secured the 4th win in a row for the Vipers. The Vipers now need to rest up before they’re back on the ice in less then 12 hours.

Jake Windbiel started in net for his 10th appearance this season. Just under 2 minutes in, Connor Chartrand took the first penalty of the game. The Rockets then took back-to-back penalties at 5:20 and 8:35. During the second powerplay, Zach Vaillancourt used this advantage to give Lasalle the lead. Later in the period, Jak Thiessen scored his 10th goal of the season at 17:57. This crucial goal ended up being the game winner.

The second period was full of penalties. We saw 4 penalties total. Kieran McNally was sent to the box at 5:45. Followed by 2 Rockets penalties at 15:32 and 17:18. Alec Stewart then took the final penalty of the period at 19:13. Stewart made his return to the lineup after dealing with an injury that made him miss 9 games.

Strathroy came out of the intermission determined, scoring their first of the game only 21 seconds into the third period. The Vipers spent the whole reminder of the third holding on to their lead. In the end, successfully securing the 2-1 win.
